Our 2010 Rav4 locks the door at startup and unlocks when engine is shut off. Not sure if that is the only option.

If so you have the only one on the planet, prove it.

Actually I forgot that we had an after market alarm system put in that works in conjunction with the keyless entry. Maybe that is what is doing the locking and unlocking.

My dads 2006 has an aftermarket remote start/alarm that locks in drive and unlocks in park.

 

Hmm...I wonder can it be done on the 2009 then? If it's just a computer thing, maybe they can program it.

 

OK double checked and I was wrong, the Rav doesn't do it. Must have just gotten confused with all the other Toyotas I get in and out of on a daily basis

 

Ok here's the update,,, I was fortunate that when i brought my car in this morning the Toyota techies together with the japanese techs were their. They informed me that Toyota is doing away with automatic lock/unlock for the 2010 RAV4 and Camry... Why? They also dont know why but the they said they are doing away with it for the 2010 models which is why we dont have it on our 2010 RAV's and Camry's. They were kind enough to apologize for the misinformation provided by 1-800 number customer care I talked yesterday. With the explanation given by the Japanese and Toyota techies I am satisifed with it,,,,,, I just dont trust their manager and salesreps,,,,,,,
by the way just an addon experience I had with my salesrep,,,, the first day I took my car from the dealership I noticed that the Tonneau Cover was not there,,, so I asked the salesrep how come I dont have the tonneau cover,,, he was quick to reply,," It is an option, its not standard even with the Limited trim." Well ok then I guess I have to buy it then. I dont know if its standard or not on the limited. So when I got back home and installed my Cargo Line WOOT WOOT the tonneau cover is in compartment with in the cargo line. Where it is being placed if you dont intend to use it....... would I still trust my rep ahehehehe nope.

 

Yeah, that's why you do your homework before going and know what you should get...haha.

 

Well, if they're "doing away with" the automatic door locks for the 2010 RAV4, then why were they never available for the 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009? It was never a programmable option for any of these models UNLESS you bought the Toyota RS3200 alarm system.

 

They are doing away with it on their Camry 2010. Not familiar which other models they had this auto lock/unlock. Knowing its not really an option on my RAV right now I am good with it. Our RAV still rocks , I am looking forward to be able to zoom zoom this on the freeway even at least once as long as there is no "Ka Band".

 

Thanks for checking SixpackABS. I guess I have to use my finger to lock/unlock for now until somebody discovers a work-around the programming.

 

Now to my question for all. I love my 2011 USA-spec RAV4 Limited, but I really need info on adding this auto door lock modification. It is the best single protection against car jackings here in Cameroon. Is there a way to do it safely without screwing up the car?

Go back to post #8 and click on the link. It's all right there. Hope they only try to open your doors while in drive. The last thing I would want is for all five to unlock when it's put in park.

 

You are right, doors must be unlocked if you switch engine off. My mazda does this with self installed aftermarket alarm. Still my RAV4 is too new to do it by myself yet.
