Some of us live in some very dangerous parts of the world (like West Africa) where car jackings (or worse) are all too common. Failure to activate a door lock because one gets distracted while headed to work in the morning could be a deadly mistake. Or after stopping and dropping the kids off at school with lots of traffic. So...thanks for allowing my soapbox speech.

Now to my question for all. I love my 2011 USA-spec RAV4 Limited, but I really need info on adding this auto door lock modification. It is the best single protection against car jackings here in Cameroon. Is there a way to do it safely without screwing up the car?

I was made to check several customization options for them to program it before I took the unit from the dealer. I just noticed it yesterday that this custom program was is not present. Went to the dealership and asked them about it. They pulled out their laptop and try to set the option. Only to be told by the service guy he doesnt see it this option comming out on his laptop. He told me that this is the first time he encountered this problem. I went to the manager only to be told that the 2010 doesnt have this option,,,,,, but I dont buy it,,, thats why I want to know if anybody have this custom program on their unit.

With my previous accord I could easily program this using my key Fob.

 

You already got your answer - the RAV4 does NOT have a program setting for auto door locking. The service tech couldn't find it because it isn't there. The manager was correct to tell you that the option doesn't exist. If you want this you'll have to look for an aftermarket solution.

 

I am just getting mix information thats why. First the service guy said that was the first time he encountered such a problem with a 2010. The manager came in and talked to the service guy and came back with an explanation that the 2010 doesnt have it. Thats why I dont trust my dealerships asses,,,, I am more confident getting information from fellow RAV4 owners.

 

Who among here who are owners of RAV4 2010 Limited and Sports trim have their RAV's programed so that the car doors automatically unlocks when the car is put to PARK and doors lock when the car is put into DRIVE ? I need info badly.

Just cause you had this feature on your 2008 Accord, it doesn't mean that it'll be on your 2010 Rav4. However, if you ever find out that it can be done with programming, then please do let us know. I think Highlanders and Camrys have this feature too. It sucks that it's not on the Rav4.

Having this feature on my accord didnt make me think that we have this on our RAV4, it was the salesman who handed me the checklist to customized the option and the service tech as well who said he never had any problem configuring in other 2010.

 

I see. Misunderstood you. Thought you were saying that since your '08 Accord had this, then it should have it on the Rav4. My bad. Honestly, I wish it does have it though. Even my manual transmission Accord had a variation on this. Basically, when I turned on the vehicle, if all the doors were closed, it would autolock. Boggles my mind that Toyota didn't include the auto door locking feature. However, after owning the Rav4 for half a year now, I've gotten used to just locking it manually everytime I get into the vehicle.

 

OK I need to go check now, cause I swear my Rav does this. Will report back later this afternoon after my lunch.

just adding my 2cents but I was told it wasn't available either (I have a 2010 limited). It was one of the things on my list to ask when I was looking at the car since my previous car (2002 celica) had that option (however I think it only had that option because I installed an alarm/keyless entry).

I had a Highlander for a rental last Friday that did this. Didn't like it. Doesn't seem safe to have every door unlock when you turn off the car.

 

Maybe difference between Japan built or Canadian built?
Mine doesn't do it, but I haven't looked into trying to do it. Never did like that feature anyway.

Actually I forgot that we had an after market alarm system put in that works in conjunction with the keyless entry. Maybe that is what is doing the locking and unlocking.

 

I called corporate toyota this morning and I was told RAV4 2010 have this option,, the head of service department of my dealership called me this afternoon and asked me to bring in the car,,, I will bring my car in tomorrow morning.

 

I hope the dealer can program your "auto lock" because I like it too. Thanks for checking.
