Scott Cummings Long reply with pictures :-) Tue Jul 3 18:11:55 2001 I replaced all my speakers with Kenwood KFC-1768S speakers as IMHO the paper coned Toyota Factory ones are nothing great, I did not take photos sorry, So here is what it is says in the Repair Manual (with more info) and modified pictures by me from Infinity Site on replacement speakers for '01 RAV4. Do the following at your own risk, I take NO responsibility if you make a mess of your RAV4. Tips, Put tape (not much) on the ends of the small flat headed/blade screwdriver and take your time!!!, You don't want to scratch or break any parts of the interior parts of your RAV4. Also I advise if you do this yourself to start on a rear door first as the front doors are slightly harder. Rear Door:- ![]() 1 - Remove Door Inside Handle Bezel a) - Using a small flat bladed screwdriver (with tape on the head of it) pry open the small cover that hides the screw, Do this carefuly as to not to mark the cover or break it off as the cover should swing open and stay attached. b) - Remove the screw c) - Now the hardest part of the Inside Handle Bezel removal, Use the small flat bladed screwdriver (with tape on it) and pry gently at the top with a screwdriver between the top the lock mechanism and Handle Bezel and then repeat this but at the bottom of the lock mechanism at the points (red arrows) shown on the picture above. (The repair manual just says pry out the bezel and it does not tell you how :-( 2 - Door Assist Grip Cover a) - Use the small flat bladed screwdriver and place it at the bottom of the Door Assist Grip Cover and pry open the cover at the point (red arrow) shown in above picture, Then once it pops out at the bottom just gently by hand remove the Door Asist Grip Cover gradually working your way up, It's slightly harder at the top to remove so it might take a small tug or two to remove. b) - And remove the two screws in the Door Handle with a Philips/Star screwdriver. 3 - Power Window Switch a) - Use the small flat bladed screwdriver and gently pry out the Power Window Switch at either side of Power Window Switch at the points (red Arrows) shown in the above picture, It's important you tape the Screwdriver as the Power Window Switch area scrathed easily. b) - Once you pry out the Power Window Switch disconnect the power window switch connector. Then it is a case of just pulling the Door Trim board or door cover off, I would start at the bottom, There are 7 Clips that hold Door Trim Board to the door, Then once all the clips released from the Door Trim Board just lift up to remove it. Then you will have to drill out the 3 rivets that hold the speaker in place, I reused the Factory speaker spacers, By removing the speaker cone (It was great cutting and ripping out the factory paper cone speakers) and cutting away the plastic until I had a empty speaker spacer for me to put my new speakers into the factory speaker spacer/adapters, I also reused the Speaker spacers connector to attach to my new speakers, You can however buy Speaker Spacers/Adpaters for your RAV4 from Scosche Part No. SAT6 Front Door ![]() 1 - Remove Door Inside Handle Bezel a) - Using a small flat bladed screwdriver (with tape on the head of it) pry open the small cover that hides the screw, Do this carefuly as to not to mark the cover or break it off as the cover should swing open and stay attached. b) - Remove the screw c) - Now the hardest part of the Inside Handle Bezel removal, Use the small flat bladed screwdriver (with tape on it) and pry gently at the top with a screwdriver between the top the lock mechanism and Handle Bezel and the repeat this but at the bottom of the lock mechanism at the points (red arrows) shown on the picture above. (The repair manual just says pry out the bezel and it does not tell you how :-( 2 - Front Door Lower Frame Bracket Garnish a) - Use the small flat bladed screwdriver (with tape on it) and pry off the panel do this carefully if you have speakers in this area as found on RAV4's with 6 Speaker setups. You can take this Front Door Lower Frame Bracket Garnish off by hand if you don't have speakers in this area. b) - There is one plastic screw to be removed below the Front Door Lower Frame Bracket Garnish. 3 - Door Assist Grip Cover a) - Use the small flat bladed screwdriver and place it at the bottom of the Door Assist Grip Cover and pry open the cover at the point (red arrow) shown in above picture, Then once it pops out at the bottom just gently by hand remove the Door Asist Grip Cover gradually working your way up, It's slight harder at the top to remove so it might take a small tug or two to remove. b) - And remove the two screws in the Door Handle with a Philips/Star screwdriver. 4 - Power Window Switch a) - Use the small flatheaded/blade screwdriver and gently pry out the Power Window Switch at the top as shown at the point (red arrow) in the above picture (Do not do this at the bottom of the Power Window Switch as you will break the lower plastic clip, At the top there is a metal clip which can take the pressure), It's important you tape the Screwdriver as the Power Window Switch area scrathes easily. b) - Once you pry out the Power Window Switch disconnect the power window switch connector. The Drivers one with the all the Window Switches is the hardest to disconnect. And as above you will have to drill out the 3 rivets that hold the speaker in place.
