Mark Phelan: Toyota RAV4 scores well in crowded market with new tailgate, good mileage, roominess \| Detroit Free Press \| freep.com Toyota sharpened its focus when it developed the all-new 2013 RAV4 crossover SUV. Gone are the powerful optional V6, outdated four-speed transmission, snug third row of seats and tailgate-mounted spare tire that made the previous RAV an outlier. The new five-passenger RAV4 aims for the bull’s-eye in the middle of the crossover SUV market.

Consumer Reports Preview May 3

They've just completed their testing of the RAV4 and although we won't see the details for a little while yet there's a brief preview just posted (May 3). Frankly this employee says it did well but the tone is very lukewarm from this particular person comparing it to an older version which she owns: Should I buy a new or used Toyota RAV4? Note that she does mention that overall fuel economy was found to be only 1 MPG better than the previous generation. A big disappointment and a big surprise considering the new 6 speed tranny - certainly not as good as Toyota claims.

all wheel drive or not

Hi, I would like to know from fellow rav4 owners, if my 2000 5door rav4 2lt have a diff in the front as well as the back, and have a central diff lock instead of a front or rear, does that make it an all wheel drive? I would also like to know if my rav is an all wheel drive, can I fit bigger wheels or will that cause any problems on the diff or drive shaft or cause any other problems in the long run?
