Post: #1 Posted: January 1, 2007, 12:20 pm Post subject: Replacing front speakers into stock spacers |
|
|
|
I have removed the front stock speakers and am in the process of installing Infiniti 6012i's. I have "cleaned" out the stock speaker spacer but do not know how to attach the new speaker to the old spacer. There are no holes for mounting a speaker as the stock speaker looks like it was glued onto the spacer.
Can anyone who's done this give me some help? |

Short answer: Drill your own holes where needed. _________________ - Brian |

Where do I drill the holes? I don't see an area on the spacer that is thick /wide enough to drill.

| just drill as near to the edge as possible, it is quite difficult, but me nd a friend did it a few days ago, or you should have kept the wood part on and just drilled into that if your speakers are thin enough |

Great tip on keeping the wood part attached to the original spacer. I did that on the driver's door. However the door panel will not fit back on since my speaker protruded to far out and was preventing the door panel to be snapped back into place. Would have worked nicely if my speakers did not require more top clearance.
Ended up jamming some drywall anchors into the gap of the original spacer and screwing my speakers into them. Speakers are tight for now. Hopefully they stay that way.
Worth all the trouble. They sound great. Big improvement over stock speakers. |

| I installed Infinity 6012i in the front. I'll change the rear speakers once I figure out how to mount them securely. Or I could just get really thin speakers. |

I have read this on a German Rav forum
They don't remove the door panel.
just lift the front of the speaker with a screwdriver.
Take a sharp knife and cut out the original speaker.
Place the new one. done in 01h15 both speakers
Only one Pic on the forum. When the installation is completed

Thats not keeping it looking stock - that mod is easy because you dont actually have to make it fit so that it looks like youve done nothing..... _________________ Keep on RAVin..... |

Hello to all!
When UPS brings my new Speakers for the rear door on monday I`ll post some step-by-step Pictures of the Modification in our german RAV4 Forum. (Link above)
When I replaced the front speakers I forgot to take pictures. So you find only one when the work was done.
The mod, i described is easy and quick because you don´t have to take off the door- boards but, as metioned, you see, that´s no longer stock.
@ RAVKE:
Thanks fo posting the link to my Picture!

| For those who've replaced their speakers...which brand/model speaker can be installed within the stock spacers by drilling into the wooden ring without pushing out on the stock speaker grill? |

The Pictures of the the replacement of the stock- speakers (by cutting them out) are online.
The Pictures you see are from the replacement oft the rear door speaker, but the replacement of the front door speakers is absolutely the same.
Its an easy, quick an effective way to get better sound. We call it "brutal replacement", but it has good results!
Here again the link:

and i removed the wood thing, i have jvc speakers and i drilled on the outside hole or whatever you will call it and the screw was able to find plastic |
