This is an excellent idea, Paul--well done! You have put all the relevant information into one web page in a simple easy to understand format. Keep up the good work until Toyota finally fixes the problem for everyone. _________________ James |

Does the letter say Toyota will reimburse you for the cost of the repair? |
Yes, however, I did it myself, didn't want to try to claim the part in case it voided the powertrain warranty. Plus it says 'If you have previously paid for the repair of the VVT-i Oil Hose...'
I didn't pay for labour. |

Thanks James
Now ... maybe with a little luck, someone with an out of warranty engine failure and a giant bill for a seized engine will show up with a TV news crew to confront the dealer ! (a wireless laptop might be a good accessory, too since so many Internet posts and pictures make for a good story !) |

| just received my LSC notice...happy to have it...at 34,000 mi. am in no particular hurry to set it up...let things shake out at the dealers as they do a few...wonder how many queries they will get about subbing in the metal instead of the 'new' rubber...before they hear mine...last three years on multiple visits have been pleased with their overall level of service and professionalism...they are there (theoretically) to satisfy the customer after all...would def be pissed if i were an '07 and beyond owner til the changeover...restriction makes no sense whatsovever at this point... |

American Version - my vehicle is not covered so no letter. Unlike the American version, the Canadian version of the letter properly covers ALL affected vehicles including yours and mine and was just sent to me from a person in Canada that wants to remain anonymous.
Here is the relevant portion of the email without disclosing his name or email addresss:
"Just today I received the recall letter from Toyota Canada. I've attached a copy which I have doctored to protect the innocent (me) by masking the name and address info. As you will see, this is more extensive than the U.S. recall, as it includes a wider spectrum of models/model years. Interesting to see the comments regarding the 'cause'. I'll contact my friendly service manager to see what he's found out about the part (metal vs. metal/rubber), and will update you as I get more info. Please feel free to post the image if it helps to stir sh#t in the States."
His email attachment is in the form of a jpg file because he took a picture of the letter. The bad news is that I was abe to download and read it but I am unable to copy and paste it or convert it to a WORD or other document that can be copied and pasted. I will work on trying to post it.
Note: the recall letter is from Toyota Canada, Inc. dated November 2009 and the reference number is SOSH-922-1A.

Relax! You have a 2009 model--therefore you have the all-metal line and are not affected by this problem. _________________ James |

They said certain 2006-2009 RAV4. Meaning that metal tube doesn't apply.
I hate to boast but I said many months ago (buried in the middle of this thread) that the original rubber was for ATF and not engine oil. The Canada Toyota wording seems to be consistent with that. |

I don't doubt your credibility ........ but the improved rubber part 15707-31030 continued to fail ......... albeit - it did last longer than the original 15707-31010.
The only real fix is the all metal oil line 15772-31030 if the engine is going to last the 300,000 plus miles that the prior V6 3.0 engine previously installed in the Lexus/Camry V6 capable of lasting with proper oil change intervals. |

I have not received the letter and my VIN is not is the ranges shown in the Limited Service Campaign. My VIN starts with JMZK32V56...
My 2006 RAV4 V6 Sport oil hose blew out at 61K, just over the warranty. The dealer refused to install the metal pipe version, saying it wasn't meant for my engine and may not fit correctly. The charged me a few hundred dollars to put the same rubber hose part back on.
I'm afraid to drive the RAV4 long distances.
I don't understand why my VIN# is not covered!!! |

My 07 rav4 v6 has 45000 miles on it. I just spoke with toyota customer service and they said the dealer will not pre-emptively fix the oil hose if the VIN is not part of the recall. They said that the LSC has just started and Toyota may include other vehicles as well in the future. I asked if I could get a letter from Toyota to get this fixed but they refused to send any such letter for the dealer.
They said if anything happens then it would be covered under the extended warranty that I have.
I had called the dealer earlier and they had said that unless there is a problem they will not fix it.
I expressed my dissatifaction and took the call reference for my records. I would suggest everyone starts calling them and note the call reference for the future. Hopefully Toyota will issue a recall for this. |

Strong work.
As I posted previously in
Link
the original 2006 rubber is acrylic rubber (ACM) resistant to hot oil up to 1000 hrs (60,000 miles in hwy driving). But it is not resistant to fuel in oil and it was designated for ATF line. It should not be used under -10C (very brittle). Interesting how Toyota designed that part to last only 60,000 miles but put metal lines in Lexus with the same engine. Planned obsolescence? The designation on the rubber was AT OIL ACM GC06. I would like to know what is the designation on the new rubber. Anyone?
Paul do you want to put that info in your website? |
