Hi Group, new guy here from St. Louie. I would really like to put the largest tire that will fit on my 2010 RAV4 17" limited wheels, as long as they do not hit the body or wheel well anywhere. I really don't care about the circumference as long as they will not hit the body. Laughing
Have any of you experimented with larger tires? What is the largest tire you can use and still turn the car?
TIA, Elliot

I don't have the exact answer, but it seems some of the 18" Sport-trimmed posters are running 245/255 width tires.

That said, if you are at all worried about diminished ride quality and MPG, keep a close watch of the new tire weigh compared to the stock tire. Visit Tire Rack or similar sites that list tire weigh by each size.

By the way...nice color choice!

Thank you, I like your choice of toys. If I could figure out how to insert pics I would send some back...

You could post your pictures to ImageBam.com or other service, and put the link into your post. You could put the pictures into your album. ImageBam gives example code to insert into a posting. To look at the syntax, you can start a reply to a posting with a picture the way you would like yours to look, and see what the code would look like. Then cancel the reply.

http://www.RAV4World.com/index/tirelist.html has not been updated lately, and the only 17 inch RAV 4.3 entry is for a non-standard wheel.

Are you necessarily looking for bigger tires or just wider tires? ...because a 255/60-17 will fit your stock wheels, and there are quite a few good options available in that size. They're not a whole lot bigger than your stock tires in terms of OD, but they give you quite a bit more rubber on the ground.

I was looking for a taller tire. Looing at REVO 2 245 75R 17. The rim and tread width is the same as stock but the tire diameter is 10% larger. I would gain 1.5" of ground clearance and they should run smoother then stock. I still need to check the wheel wells for clearance.

Thank you

won't fit. with the 245/65R17's i had just a hair over 1/2'" clearance from the top of the tire to the bottom of the front spring perch on the front struts. i think you might of been able to make a 255/65R17 work, thats about it.

I think you were using a P245/65R17 Pirelli Scorpion ATR Tire. The tire has a 29.6 diameter. I assume the spring perch moves up and down with the tire. So I am limited to a 30" tire. Great information. Thank you

Have you thought about going to a 16" wheel? You could have a little taller-looking tire with the same OD. I'd bet you could squeeze in a 255/70-16 without too much of a rubbing problem (it has the same envelope as a 255/65-17). Even if it was a little too tight, there are some lifting options available.

I wouldn't put anything larger than 255 width. I have 245/65/17 and they provide a huge increase over the stock width, but they are about as wide as the car can handle with a stock setup.

I run 255/55r18s fine pre lift. I only ran into rubbing when I added wheel spacers post lift.

I think I will go for the 245 65R 17 as the 255 specs a 7" wheel. The Highlander comes stock with 245 65R 17 on a 7.5" wheel. The RAV4 only has a 6.5" wheel.

Thanks for all the information.

The 17" aluminum wheels are 7" wide. Only the steel wheels are 17 x 6.5".
